PEIMQG November 2017 Meeting

Well Folks, we are just about to wrap another year with the PEIMQG. We rescheduled our last business meeting of 2017. We met on Friday instead of our usual 4th Thursday this month. Boy oh Boy it was a great meeting!!

Heather J. opened the meeting by welcoming 17 members and 1 guest.

Nancy M. joined us as a representative for The PEI Foster Children Association. We had an incredible 44 charity quilts to donate!!! The quilts were of various sizes and materials. Some were hand quilted, and others had applique. These quilts will be allocated to the children in 4 group homes on the Island.

Here are the awesome quilts put on display. Don't they look GREAT!!!

If you have any quilts you would like to donate to PEI's foster children please feel free to contact us @ peimqg@gmail.com.

Next up we had a presentation by Cathy V, for the QuiltCon charity quilt challenge. The completed quilt was shown to the members in attendance. But we are only going to show the back, because we want to keep it a surprise!!.

The PEIMQG will be donating the quilt to Sobeys as a Thank You for letting us use their Community room. Sobeys will be using the Quilt as a fundraiser for the PEI chapter of Children's Wish Foundation.

Heather J. presented a President's challenge to members. Members who sign-up will receive a random numbered paper bag, containing fabric. The challenge is to create a block with a "Nautical" theme using some or all of the fabric provided. (you can add to the fabrics, but they must be Kona Solids). Further details can be found on the Members Only section of the blog or Member's Only FB page.

September's Queen Bee Heather J. received her "Paper Clip" blocks.

October's Queen Bee Heather C. received her "Sewing Machine" blocks.

Be sure to bring a mock-up or drawing of your proposal to the January meeting. It will be put to a vote and a committee will be formed to proceed with this endeavour. The design can be an original or a published pattern (please be respectful of copyright laws).

Our December Potluck will take place on December 9th at Heather J's home. Don't forget to bring in your completed Round Robin projects for a chance to win an awesome prize.

We will be playing Right, Left, Centre, so be sure to bring in 10 charm squares (5" squares) of modern fabric. winner takes them all home!!!

PEIMQG November 2017 Sew-In

The time changed in the wee hours last night and it feels like Autumn at last!! The weather here in Prince Edward Island has been very weird. Frost some mornings, then temperatures rising to 20 degrees or more. Not that I'm complaining.... It will be very cold, soon enough!!

The holidays will be here before we know it. I enjoy getting together at our Sew-Ins, its a chance to slow down and catch up with like-minded friends before the hectic schedule of the holidays kicks in. We had 10 members attend the Sew-In throughout the day. Busy hands sewing bindings and sewing machines were humming. We even had a quilt finish!

Heather J. was working on this table runner which was an orphan block re-imagined. Straight line quilting really compliments this piece.

Velda was working on a couple projects. Here you can see her "The Avenue Blocks" mixed in with some of her "A Year of Scrappy Triangles" blocks.

Here is a closeup of one of her "The Avenue" blocks.

And one of her layouts. This quilt is so much fun!!

Lucinda was working on her "Blue Ridge Beauty" blocks.

Gail was busy binding her Redwork Runner. Just in time for Christmas!!

Linda was working on binding this Bright beauty.

Cathy was working on her "Sunkissed by Spring" blocks.

She also took some time to demonstrate how she approaches paper piecing. She also shared a few alternative methods for achieving similar results using traditional piecing.

Jean was working on binding.

Here is the quilt finally finished. It is gorgeous!!

Dianne was assembling some smaller quilts using her Queen Bee blocks that she received from her Bee mates a few months back.

Colleen and Dawn stopped by after lunch to drop off a charity quilt for Dianne.

They also brought Heather her quilted "Geode" quilt. Love those Cotton + Steel holiday prints!!

Here is the back.

and a closeup on the quilting.

What a great way to spend a relaxed Saturday. We only have a few more get-togethers before 2017 comes to a close.
