PEIMQG 2018 March Meeting

Spring is finally here!!! (Although I'm not sure PEI got the memo). We have had a series of little storms so far this month, so we had to reschedule our regular Thursday meeting for a windy Sunday afternoon. It was sort of a nice change meeting during the day. We had 16 members and 1 guest in attendance. Welcome to Virginia, it was nice to have you join us!

Heather J. opened the meeting by announcing that the Cheryl Arkison Trunkshow and workshops will now be open for anyone who wishes to attend.

The PEIMQG is hosting Cheryl for a Trunkshow Thursday, October 18th, 2018.

Cheryl's "Value's  Plus" workshop will be held Friday, October 19th, 2018.

and her "Make Words not War" workshop will be held Saturday, October 20th, 2018.

Spaces are limited so be sure to register early. Feel free to contact us to register or if you have any questions by email: peimqg@gmail.com.

The PEIMQG has been busy turning orphan blocks into placemats for "Meals on Wheels". We had received 14 last month and 11 more this month for a total of 25. Great work guys!! We will have some happy folks eating on lovely placemats just in time for Easter.

At the end of year potluck Heather J. presented the members with a challenge. The president's challenge had us taking home a paper bag of random scraps of solids. Each bag had a constant color that we had to use (Kona Regal). The theme was "Nautical" , and the results are amazing!!!!

We would like the online community's help in choosing their Viewer's Choice".
Please find the poll at the bottom of the blogpost and vote for your favorite block. The winner will be announced at the April 26th meeting.

Our Raffle quilt is almost finished!!! Just the binding left to do and then we can start selling tickets. It is a beautiful, fun and modern quilt, that I think anyone would love to win.

Here's a close-up of the block and quilting.

Lastly we had Show & Share:

Gail kept to the Nautical theme with her "Compass Quilt".

Gail also had this cute panel to share. Perfect for a quick baby quilt.

Dawn was very excited to share a project that she's been keeping secret.... She had the opportunity to test this super cute pattern "One Fish, Two Fish" will be available on Janet Barker's Etsy and Craftsy store soon. Dawn loved the experience of testing the pattern. The results are fantastic!!!

Janice has been having sew much fun making postcards. Her talent astounds me!!

She also shared this baby quilt " Butterfly Kisses, Bright Flower Wishes". I love the variety of scraps in the butterflies!!

Helen shared this super cute seahorse.

PEIMQG March 2018 Sew-In

March has had plenty of little storms, here in PEI. In like a lion!!! (so the saying goes.....) Because of the unpredictable weather conditions, we left it up to our members to use their own judgment attending the Sew-In this past Saturday. We had 4 members attend and it was very cozy, I must say!!!

Binding was the project of the day, Jean, Heather J. and Linda all brought bindings to work on. Cathy was keen to take advantage of the empty tables to layout her past "Queen Bee" quilt blocks.

Here is Jean's "Dimensions" quilt. Isn't it gorgeous??

And the back is pretty awesome too!!

Linda was binding her "Patchwork City" Uptown Layout.

Here's the back. Isn't the quilting great!!!

Heather was binding some leftover curved 4-patch blocks. Perfect for the "Meals On Wheels" placemats.

Here's Cathy's blocks all laid out!!

Gail stopped by around lunch time for a quick visit, and a catch up.

Well we may not have been many, but we had a great day sewing!!

PEIMQG February 2018 Monthly meeting

February's Monthly meeting of the PEIMQG, oddly enough, took place in March.  🤣   We had to reschedule our meeting as the space was double booked, but that was okay, because we had an extra week to get prepared for the meeting, so everything worked out well.

Heather J. welcomed 14 members to the meeting, and shared some correspondence we've received from a new Canadian online quilt shop, Woven Fabric Gallery. Be sure to head over and check out their great selection of Modern fabrics, patterns and notions!

We were notified our blog is one of the top 50 Canadian Quilt Blog!  Fabulous to get this recognition of our member, Cathy's mad blogging skills.  Yea us!!!

Heather also took a moment to remind us that the President's Challenge is due at the March meeting, she's been super impressed by what has been turned in so far. We will be having a viewer's choice poll to see which block is everyone's favorite, so be sure to check back later this month to vote for YOUR favorite block.

One of our chosen charities for 2018 is "Meals on Wheels". Dianne has asked that we bring in our completed placemats for the March meeting as well. We currently have 14, but hope to have at least 32.

Cheryl Arkison will be joining us in October for a Trunkshow and 2 workshops. We ask that members please sign-up and complete payment at the March meeting. We will then open up the workshops to the outside quilting community. If you are interested in attending the Trunkshow or want further details of the Workshops don't hesitate to send Heather an email:peimqg@gmail.com.

In conjunction with the PEIMQG Mystery quilt-along, we have been focusing our meeting's Tips & Tricks on the clues released that month. Here's Cathy demonstrating Clue #7. April 1st is the big reveal!!! We can't wait.

Here are some of last month's Clue #6. I am really loving the variety.

For this month's program the members were asked to share their favorite rulers.
Heather J shared her Bloc-Loc HST rulers.

Liz had us all giggling with her 90 degree double strip ruler AKA " Dolly Parton".

Cathy shared her Jaybird Sidekick ruler, you can see the sample she made on the table.

Jean loves her Deb "Tucker Turner" Soon she'll have to replace it, it's been so well used.

Velda was so happy to share our completed raffle quilt top. It will be heading off to the Long-armer very soon. Isn't it beautiful?? If you are interested in purchasing a ticket for a chance to win this awesome quilt, be sure to check back in April for more details.
